Grease perfectly captures the pop culture of the late 50s and early 60's

However, the 60s also saw a growing involvement in a conflict not called a "war'. It was a time which divided a nation, both in Australia and USA. Youth were demonstrating...a first....we no longer saw war as something you did to play hero.

Apocalypse Now clearly captures tha absurdity of the conflict we were never going to win. It also showed the absurdity of the media showing the conflict in our living rooms every night. The drug culture was getting under way as a method of distancing oneself/coping with the horrors of fighting.

Good Morning Vietnam and Killing Fields also show various aspects of that conflict.

The way we treat returned soldiers changed forever following this conflict. no longer treated as heroes, Sylvester Stallone was able to capture this in First Blood. it was when we first realised that these men and women were treated as cannon fodder by our governments and nothing in the way of de-briefing or rehabilitatinging them as useful citizens was in place. The govt would have preferred they didn't come home. The public response was divided and the govt didn't care. This generation would never be the same.
