    Pixies is alt. rock but perhaps could also be described as "indie" rock as well. Both of the albums I listed were released in the late 80s and had a big influence on the alt. rock boom of the 90s. Emilíana Torrini is kinda... trip-hop, pop, & electronica. Ladytron is electronic & synthpop. Placebo is alt. rock. The Spy From Cairo would probably be classified as "world" by most people but I would call it more folk/fusion. Leonard Cohen is folk, folk rock, spoken word... and sheer lyrical brilliance :D Faithless is electronic, trip hop, & trance.
