What News item upset you the most today?

Everyday, whether it be local or world news, there are things that are cruel and upsetting. I usually harden up and don't let things in, otherwise I just couldn't read/watch the news any more.

But today each time I heard about those children who died in the shopping centre fire in Qatar today, I got sadder till i finally burst into tears. The families of all people lost must be just devastated! :(

Ditto. I was actually going to ask a question about what is going on in Syria. It astounds me that this can happen in the world!

as far as I can gather the killing is still going on regardless, men, women, children and even babies, on the BBC last night a young boy said he had played dead but had seen his family killed, it is unbearable, I hugged my little one and wondered how I would cope with such horror.

A sixth grade girl attacked her teacher and stabbed her in the back with a pair of scissors. Her penalty? She is suspended for the rest of the school year.

WTF...she should be up on criminal charges and facing prison.

That's ridiculous! At the very least she should be institutionalised/hospitalised so as to find out her problem and treat it, so she can get better (otherwise you can bet something like this will happen to someone else at the hands of this girl!) Just shocking.

I don't know, LadyClarion. I have a problem with the pervasive notion that young people are not cognizant of the harm they do when they take a violent course of action. Children are not innocent beings anymore. They wallow in violence and criminal behavior every time they turn on their video game consoles, go to the movies, or log onto the internet. To see them doing such things as this girl does, and then on top of it making a video of it and posting it on YouTube says to me that they simply have no moral compass. The people on a lower rung of the moral ladder are their parents, who refuse to utter the words "not in my house, you won't". Lower still is the government who take away parental rights and impose ridiculous sanctions against anyone who tries to instill a sense of right and wrong in their kids. Hospitalization will not help this little monster, nor will it help the attacked teacher walk again. At least if she goes to jail, there will be justice done.

The woman who police say was drunk and speeding when she plowed a Mercedes-Benz convertible through a Huntington home had a blood-alcohol content nearly four times the legal limit, Suffolk County prosecutors said Tuesday.

Sophia Anderson, 21, of Brooklyn, pleaded not guilty Tuesday at her arraignment and is being held on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. In addition to charges of driving while intoxicated and speeding, Anderson did not have valid proof of insurance, prosecutors said.

The Mercedes narrowly missed a 90-year-old woman and her sister inside the home.

That's one reason I don't watch the news. Upsetting you with bad news is their forte. And what good does it do for you to know what happened on the other side of the world? Or who killed who in the city last night?
To me, news is something that affects me personally.
