I split with my ex a few years ago, despite this we stayed best of friends.

Soon she will be off to university, and I know the kind of things that await her there. She is quite a bubbly girl and good looking so I'm sure she will be having adequate amounts of fun.

Despite our split I've always maintained a big soft spot for her. We dont work as a couple but I do care for her a lot as she does for me. Even still I get angry if I see her flirting with some next guy on Facebook for example, or if she gets overly distracted by a text when im with her, etc etc

We fell out over some such things a little before the summer, and have not spoken since then. The other day she sent me a text saying she misses me, to which i have not replied.

Being her friend and confidant is difficult, because i guess i still have overprotective feelings towards her, even though I know its wrong for me to keep trying to clip her wings when she just wants to have fun like any girl her age

Help?

Key word here is ex. You need to figure out a way to get over those "couple" feelings as you are no longer a couple.
