What should bread taste like?

What should bread taste like? According to the Bible, it should taste like Manna. So what's Manna taste like? See Numbers 11:7. "Manna was like unto a coriander seed; the color of which was like bdellium [pronounced: dĕl’ēam. Its color was like myrrh, which was a white, viscid gum, as bled from the Commiphora myrrha tree found in Africa.] 8 There the people went about, and gathered [the manna], and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it. The taste of which, was like that of fresh oil. 9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell with it."

Problem here is that, even too much of a good thing can go bad. See Exodus 16:19 where Moses said, "Let no one leave any of it until the morning. 20 Nonetheless, they did not listen to Moses; and left the manna until the morning. And it bred worms and stank."

Now see Numbers 11:2. "So the people cried out to Moses; and when Moses prayed to the LORD, the fire was stopped. 3 Moses therefore called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them. 4 And with the mixed multitude that was among them fell [another] hunger. So the children of Israel wept again, saying…6…'Our soul is dried away: there is nothing to eat, besides this manna.'"

So what should bread taste like? That's a tough one, when even manna from heaven is so worthless that it breeds works and stinks. But hey, Sour Dough works for me!

it should taste like fluffy goodness. if not then you can complain all you want.

Only if it tastes like motor oil.

When it's homemade and fresh from the oven it tastes like 'a little slice of heaven' any other time and particularly if it's 'store bought' bread it's pretty much tasteless (well, okay... pumpernickel will leave a taste in your mouth you'll remember in your grave... lol)

Should taste light fluffy and well bread like.

I think kind of like bread lol. Possibly that was sour dough bread you ate because if the person cooking it doesn't just get it right it sucks.

Like freshly made sourdough bread. Crunchy, salty, warm and soft and gooey in the middle.

Bread should warm. Soft on the inside, slightly harder and crispy on the outside. Here in philippines, the bread tastes kind of sweet. And I really don't like it. Slightly salty and bland at the same time is perfect. I especially like american, french or swiss bread. My favorites are croissant and zopf bread.
