I note that you are in Nebraska (BRR!) and a single mom of two.
Look up how to build an igloo, then build a proper one with ventilation in the yard with your kids, get in the igloo, light a small fire, tell stories and toast marshmellows until it's late.

That's the thing, You are never alone on Winter Solstice because everyone who is celebrating across the globe are all together in spirit. Just enjoy everyone as you enjoy your evening.

Find a Christmas festival to go to and enjoy yourself, go to church and find an old widow to spend talking and baking with, Go volunteer for something cool, go out and randomly sing or cookie drop(Ding dong ditch and leave cookies) or something interesting like that.
