Resolved Question

What should I do?

I get an email from a family member telling me that he's going to beat the tar out of me whenever I'm in town again among other hateful things; what should I do about it?

tattle tale? I'd email him back and tell him I'm printing out his email and reporting it to the police..

isn't that threat? seriously do it if you think he means it.. so if anything happens you have proof it was premeditated.

this is a very disturbing question and i don't know the circumstances so it's hard to answer for you, but if anyone threatened me i would alert the police, then prepare to defend myself with any means possible. i would also contact other family members including the offender.

keep the email, print it out and take it to the police.. family member or not no one should send people violent threats. Even if there might be a chance of all mouth no action

wow! what kind of family member is it? it cant be a close relative or im pretty sure he or she wudnt say that to you! But if i was in that situation i wud just write a reply back saying - you dont scare me - go ahead do what you want to do but it will be you getting done for assault not me ! but yeh thats fine just say something along the lines of that im not saying go put yourself up for slaughter but show the person that it doesnt worry you at all that will only make them more confident and then hey will have some sort of control over you - but for now whenever you are in town just make sure you take someone with you k? i hope this might have helped x

sorry if it wasnt what you were looking for
all the best lola :) x

I am not an attorney and this is not meant to substitute for legal advice.

You should print it out and take it to the police department. If they do not first arrest the person who made the threat, they will suggest that you simply file for an order of protection. You might pay up front to file but the dumbass will likely have to pay court costs and maybe reimburse you for filing.

That's awful, violence is awful, for a man to threaten a woman like this is unacceptable, this is a matter for the police, we do live in a society where this is not acceptable, this like something medieval, who is he to say where you can or cannot go? You can get a restraining order so he cannot go near you, please take care of this violent person.

wow. has he ever done this before? first, maybe you shouldn't visit him? second, if he's done this before (actually hit you) and you didn't report it, now is your chance. at least file an incident report. he doesn't even have to know about it.

third, don't delete the email and don't respond to it.

find out if this is a pattern for him, i.e. is he abusing/threatening anyone else.

be careful & stay safe!!!

Don't reply. Show it to someone you trust in your family. I don't know if the police would even do anything, until the person actually does something...
