If you were a martial artist and you could only choose between this two weapons which would you chose : bastard sword (one fist or 2 fisted, but no scimitars, no long swords, no rapiers and no baselards) or a uchigatana (but not smaller swords like the tanto or washizaki)

Uchigatana--elegant, deadly. I can just imagine how many openings somebody would leave, swinging such a clumsy thing around... >_>

True but can a katana be used efficiently for stabbing moves? I'm honestly asking, I have no idea.

Elegance doesn't go too far when the brute trauma of any contact between the swords would break the Japanese sword into pieces.

I love it how the best way to get a tangent answer is to give a binary choice.

If it was an open choice, it my answer wouldn't have been a tangent, despite the answer being the same.

By that train of thought a butterfly or switchblade would be more effective for urban warfare.

The katana can be used for thrusting stabbing moves but only by somebody whose mastered it through years of practise, I can barely use a cutlery knife never mind a martial arts weapon.

I'd opt for a real Japanese hand crafted $40,000 dollar katana made by a master craftsman. If I'm gonna die may as well do it with style.

I would not choose either swords. I would rather go with a Claymore or Two Arming/Knightly swords in each hand.

And if we throw all restrictions out of the window I'd chose nun-chucks with chainsaws on the ends but back on track, double wielding long swords is pure fantasy , no point in it.

The Arming/Knightly sword is not a long sword but it is the precursor to the long sword. The Blade section is shorter and the overall sword is lighter so you could use one in each hand albeit with a certain degree of coordinated difficulty.

German great sword. It's a proper two handed sword because you HAVE to use two hands for it, rather than using one hand or two.

Yeah, the description may look confusing but I wanted to compare a specific long sword (the bastard) with a specific long blade of the Muromachi period (era?)

A long sword generally has a hilt length of 1.5x the normal size, thus allowing for both one and two-handed use. Anyway, I would go with a European blade before a Japanese one. Japan had inferior iron ore deposits compared to the West.
