I can't speak for the general populace, but among the friends that I have, we think of the English as a lot like long lost cousins. A bit different, and a lot the same. That is no bad thing, to be thought of as different but the same.
Uptight, bad teeth, incomprehensible slang, bad guys in a lot of movies, very polite, very matter of fact, and extremely suave.
Bad teeth, pale skin, rosy cheeks, pretentious, well educated, drink a lot,
They call their mothers mum, and diapers nappies.
They ask for a ***... instead of just lighting a cigarette
