My sister made up a creepy story about the Muffin Man turning little girls into baked goods. She convinced me he lived around the block from us. She'd get me on her bike and then start toward his house and she'd start singing "Oh do you know the muffin man" we'll slowly building up tempo until we reached his house. Then she'd ride in his driveway and ride around in circles saying "Hey muffin man, I have something for you"....I would be freaking out crying.

The Grither. Just kidding. I don't actually remember any stories scaring me as a kid. I only said The Grither because I'm intrigued to see if anyone gets the reference. Fists the size of basketballs, I believe.

Scientific stuff scared me, like global warming, peak oil, or the planet being incinerated by the sun.

The story of my cousin that was sucked into my aunt Ruth's huge breast when she hugged him. And he was never seen again. My older cousins told me the story and said no one in the family speaks of the missing cousin so if I ask they will deny he existed. I ran screaming from my aunt Ruth until I was 8 and my brother told me it was a joke.

My step mother once told me the story of the rapist crackhead on the other side of the woods where we lived. How he used to spy on her. It scared the bejesus outta me. I was always afraid he was looking in the windows(10 of them),skylights (6 of them) and the sliding glass door leading to a balcony that was in my bedroom.
