i think teachers need to understand well their students' learning style since some will do better with visualization, others by doing. And of course, everybody got their own unique pace, teachers should know how to keep the learning pace fits most of the students... It's good to keep balance of general and more detailed stuffs since not everybody wants to be an expert of some areas.
Practical application of the stuffs learned also helps to raise the interest and I guess the brains are then more ready to understand and remember.

I agree to some extent with fiveminutestillbedtime; there is no reason for learning to be easy, but it should be enjoyable. Usually it takes poor teaching to take the joy out of it -- just consider the natural curiousity of children, which rapidly disappears after several years of schooling. Learning styles do differ, though it is not clear whether that is an innate difference or a learned once. Teachers have an obligation to help students learn difficult material, to the extent that they are capable of it (and not everyone has the same capabilities) but also an obligation not to make the material easier than it inherently is. Colleges are as guillty as secondary schools of "dumbing down" the curriculum. Many people who should not be there (especially children of pushy "helicopter" parents) are getting degrees that are essentially worthless. That's why a bachelor's degree is not as valuable as it once was.

teachers should make learning enjoyable and fun for their students. This will create an interest among the children and also will help them in understanding the concept clearly.

Why go out of your way to make it easy and enjoyable. Education is a life lesson which should be done correctly. Children need to learn that they have to do things even when they are not enjoying it or how hard it is. What happens when those children reach college and it's not easy and enjoyable? They quit and work mini wage jobs. Teachers need to teach not play games.

Give students clearly defined guidelines, be fair but stern, don't lower the requirements because the parents get upset if their children don't do well or act up.

By being focused on the student's learning rather than on teaching. As another has mentioned, teachers need to take into account different learning styles and intelligences. For this you need to provide lots of different activities to engage the students to allow then to think and work independently. Teachers are not fonts of wisdom. Teachers should be facilitators, encouraging discovery.

Not showing 50 year old education movies with 5 minutes of silence after each sentence. Computers must be used for faster feedback about how much they have learned but there must be a plan B if the system crashes.
