Confirmed, 7:30 a.m. EDT today (in a few hours) on NASA’s website. Their goal is to find water ice on the moon as future lunar trips will cost less without transporting water from Earth.

The satellite and upper stage (traveling at twice the speed of a bullet) will both hit a shadowed crater of the south pole, four minutes apart at approximately 7:30 a.m. and 7:34 a.m.

The resulting impact will create a huge plume of debris for analysis large enough to be seen from Earth by amateur scientists. NASA TV is planning a live broadcast at 6:15 a.m. EDT and a stream of the live event can be seen at nasa.gov/ntv.

Hope to see it with my own eyes using my Celestron Equatorial AstroMaster.
