i personally would describe the national character as well-intentioned, optimistic, innovative, rich and individualistic, but also neurotic, naive, self-absorbed, parochial and selfish

There are good, bad, fat, short, skinny, ugly, beautiful, kind, rude people everywhere in this world.
Maybe there are things that are true, like saying that japanese people are focused. But, you can't say someone is a focused person just for being japanese :)

The superficial view I have of the US is based on high school/college/suburb movies. People there seemed very shallow and stupid, to me. I've met american people and most of them were very good hearted, also consumist, but that's everywhere nowadays.

I think it is wrong to judge people as a country,nation or race or anything else for that matter there are GOOD,BAD and Complete Arseholes everywhere in the world, the problem is that people tend to put the idiots in charge that then proceed to give everybody from that Nation etc a bad name.

Great thought but why do u think this is a call for judgment, as opposed to an interest in the opinions of ordinary people. America has freedom of speech doesn't it.
