Once you get up to about $700.oo it becomes cheaper in the long run to build them yourself. You can get better parts that last longer for one thing and upgrade it whenever you like and use parts from an old machine to build a new one.

I have a mega-super desktop that I built myself with all of the bells and whistles, including a scrolling marquee, a remote, a thumb print reader, etc. but I never turn it on anymore. I just find it more convenient to bop around on my laptop.

Heh, you've got to clean it periodically with tape to remove the finger oil build-up, or else it won't read correctly. Pain in the backside, really.

For the most part, the driver for my wireless card seems to lock up my computer sometimes. The case that I ordered came with a broken fan, but other than that I'm happy with it. SSD drives with 6GB/s SATA cables = win.
