Without orbital velocity, Earth would be drawn closer to the Sun because of being inside its gravity well. Incineration of the planet's surface would result, the oceans would boil away, and the only place to stay alive temporarily would soon be underground. Eventually, the Earth would be consumed and totally vaporized as it sank into the depths below the Sun's photosphere.

Generally, some pretty bad ****:
If the Earth stopped rotating, the atmosphere would continue to rotate at about 1100 mph and all of the land masses would be scoured clean of anything not attached to bedrock. This means rocks, topsoil, trees, buildings, your pet dog, and so on, would be swept away into the atmosphere.
Pretty much half the Earth would freeze and the rest would be too hot to sustain life.

Maybe not such a hot option

You and I and everyone else would die.
