no family to rely on, no friends to turn to, no place of their own, no job, no money, no particular skills or experiences. what advice would you give to them to help them find their way out from their "rut"?

My piece of advice would be to look at it as an opportunity to completely reinvent yourself.
Whole family dead and all your friends abandoned you? Well that just means no one is around to judge you or make you feel stupid, or try to force you to be someone you're not. So cut all ties, tell no one you're leaving or where you're going (they'll only try to stop you cause they're jealous), pack your bags, and book a one way ticket to the place you've always wanted to live in, and become the person you've always wanted to be.
Walk the talk, and no one will know you're just faking it till you make it ;)
Before you know it you'll BE one of those people you've always wanted to be, and people will be looking at YOU and wishing they could be you.

Just because you "feel" that way doesn't make it true. Try to get a new perspective and take an active roll in making things better.

If you are religious, go to your church and ask to speak to a pastor, priest, someone. If not, go to social services in your area. That is what they are there for to help. If you have friends on here, turn to them. How about a neighbor? Close your eyes, center yourself, believe in yourself..you can do this. You have what it takes..Picture what you want out of this life and even if it means going to the local college and talking to a counselor, reach out..spiritually to God if you are religious in any way..if not, seek outside help. There are good people out there. You don't have to do this alone.

Look at it as an opportunity. You have nothing to lose. You could go anywhere, start over and try something completely new. Could lead to a great experience.

your life is so precious. and just because your having troubles right now does not mean your life is horrible. we will all go though crap though out our lives. its just life. "after a hurricane, comes a rainbow". even a job at Tim Hortons or McDonalds is a good job, just to have some money you can call yours. :)

First, find a job. Any job really, even a lame job somewhere in an office, there you can try to find friends, a home, and even find some hobbies. Anything and everything in life starts with just one step forward, if you aren't able to take that step forward, all you can do is stand still while the world passes you by or end up going backwards.
