What would cause a pain in your side like a horrible back ache right under your ribs?

I have had this pain in my right side right under my rib cage like a painful back ache. I have had it for about ten years. It can be so debilitating that I have to take muscle relaxants or lay on a heating pad. When I am in alot of pain it hurts to stand, sit, or walk. I have a hard time masking the pain when I am trying to have fun with my friends. Anyone know of any ideas??

A decade? And you've not brought this up to a doctor? See a doctor.

unicorn59	Posted Jul 4th, 2009 at 2:02PM You are very close to the average age for women to have gallbladder problems... I had my gallbladder removed 10 years ago...I had an aching pain up under my right ribs....it would radiate side to side, and go around the back....it was worse, when I laid down....(due to the fact I had 3 gallstones, and they move, when you change positions)....My doctor said there are three classic risk factors....female, forty, fertile.....So, you fit that category.... If it's your gallbladder, you are at risk for pancreatitis, which can be life-threatening....(a simple sonogram can detect it).... You also should know that your liver is in that same quadrant, so you should be evaluated, to make sure you don't have some liver issues.... Good luck to you. Rated: +2Vote for this!
