What would happen if we got rid of the government and military?

I think we would promptly be annexed by China.

Government is a fundamental human characteristic. Not that the individual needs rules or a rigid outline to survive by but once the population grows its almost impossible to do without some sort of infrastructure. I'd love to be the perpetual idealist and say that Anarchy could work but it just wouldn't. There's always someone to rise to power again in some capacity or another and before you know it the Anarchists are running elections to decide who's the most Anarchistic of them all. Of course they'll need suits if they're to be respected ...

If we got rid of the goverment than I would sure as hell cause chaos. Also the drug dealers and users would take over and other countries would try to dominate us. Even some countries like china and japan, and Korea and Russia already dominate us. But yes drug dealers and users would take over.

With any luck, the military will get rid of the government.

We need the military to defend us from the wacky muslims bent on turning the world into an islamic wonderland.

That depends how you do it.

If you're asking whether we can live without people ruling over us, the answer is yes. That's how we lived for most of human history. It's only with the birth of class society that we 'needed' rulers, to protect the wealthy and powerful from the underclass.

Practically, if the government was removed through a coup, another group of elites would take its place. If it was removed through a mass revolutionary movement, then we could decide for ourselves how to run things.

The question is not: what kind of government or military do we need? The question is: what economic interests do the government & military serve? Those of the rich, or those of the people?
