Resolved Question

What would YOU diagnose this as - even if not a DR !?

I live on eggshells. My SO can be in a happy mood, loving & caring, full of ideas and very energetic. But the next day - or even later the SAME day, his mood switches. He won't speak to me, nothing I do is right, s'thing that was fine for months (e.g. lid off t'paste) suddenly becomes a DISASTER But he is mostly silent. Monosyllabic. Or says nothing - won't answer...for 2-3 DAYS. Will sleep on lounge floor - refuse offerings of pillow, blankets. Not explain WTF is going on or what I or anyone or anyTHING has happened to bring this on. He goes to work & seems OK there. Then he gradually becomes more like "normal SO". He DOES see a psych - but psych thinks he is OK (I think SO lies to psych so he is not put on meds. He hates meds) & this cycle goes on & on. ADD: Not diabetic, doesn't do drugs, got worse when HE stoped Prozac -was on for 12 years UNMONITORED !! Just stopped cold turkey. Had bloods done - is physically fine. Like this (cycling) for 2-3 yrs now. No hitting but verbal abuse ++

I'm thinking manic-depressive, that may not be right but it is in the ball park.

What you need is not to know his diagnosis, but you need evidence of abnormal behavior for the psych doctor.

You need a behavioral diary. Write down the time, date, place and circumstance his behavior. Show the result to his doctor and then he will be able to treat from there. If he refuses, change doctors if possible.

Good luck.

That sounds suspiciously like Bipolar Disorder, see if you can get him to take St John's Wort if he won't get himself diagnosed

Either bipolar or Borderline Personality Disorder.

I hope the former, because it's treatable.

Everyone thinks bipolar, it's a possibility. How long has this been going on? If it came on suddenly then I would not rule out drugs, like someone suggested here. It could also be extreme stress. I've been through the stress ting so I know what that's like. One tries to not bring the work stress home but it's sometimes difficult to just forget about it and be "normal" at home. My poor wife has suffered due to this just like you do but I think I'm getting it nicely under control lately. When he gets home from work, show some interest in how his day went, give him a chance to vent and just listen to him and get it off his chest. Good luck with this.

Bipolar? possible indeed. Mental health problem sounds like he does have a problem. Does he take gear? seems he is using you as a punch bag even if its not physical abuse its mental. He may resent you being someone who does not have a problem, my worry would be has he ever hit you? do you see this as a possibility? Would he let you come with him to the doc next appointment? How do you see your own health deteriorating if this goes on, you need to consider this as urgent or all will be lost.

Well bipolar has been covered.
Another reason does jump out at me but not enough info for me to put my two penneth in yet.

What has happened prior to his mood switch?
Is he rigid in his routine, likes everything to be in it's place?
The sleeping on floor thing without comfort reminds me of bipolar but it can also be that cave man thing where he retreats to get away from the world he is not coping with.
My partner does this but it is importent that you accept that he does this because he has too and not because he is punnishing you. Have a read about Aspergers as some kind of deprression is also present if it is this.

Sounds like he had an affair, wanted to leave you and didn't know how, then the affair went bad and he now resents and blames you for losing the love of his life.

Your question and description are to vague to give a medical answer. Wish you luck.
