I would be blaming myself, where did I go wrong? That sort of thing. But my child, be there for the trial but he has to answer for his actions.

I'd want to know why he did what he did, then I'd shave off the red hair.

I would be overwhelmed by his actions. As a mother I would know my son; if I loved him not to say she didn't. I know my pets and family. I know the behavior. I see a freak when I see him. I will be there by his side but, I would tell him that he is accountable for his behavior. I will not speak anymore for him. My shame takes over.

It's what they should have done and said a long time ago that would have mattered.

I don't think the blame should be put on the parents all the time. sometimes it is the chemical make up of the person and what the parents said or did or how he was brought up has nothing to do with it.

The guy is mentally ill - if he were my son I would be there for him every day. Nobody else will be. I find it terribly sad that this guy is being called "evil". I have nothing but compassion for those hurt by what he did. But I also have compassion for him. I'm sorry if that is not popular.

Yes how sad this guy is being called evil...I would cry for him but I can't get past the the six yr old little girl that just wanted to see a movie and was shot and killed by this poor guy. Not sure what your definition of evil is but how about we send him to your house and let you deal with him instead of sitting around feeling sorry for him.

I have given my defintion of evil in other threads. Is it really so impossible for you to have compassion towards both the victims and the shooter? Personally I have compassion for both. I don't "sit around feeling sorry for him". I spent many years working with acute and forensic mental health patients. Once you do that, you come to understand that there is no such thing as "evil". But you are entitled to your opinion. I respect that. BTW, do you actually have children? Most who do speak of "unconditionl love"...that is, love WITHOUT conditons.
