    If the person seems to be fairly independent.

    Growing up my mom would always attract the guys she worked with. They would buy her things early on in the relationship, or be very nice. Within the year they all became clinging or possessive.

    When I'm put on the spot like that, I try to return the favor and let them know it's nothing serious.
