yeah but you have no way of knowing if the ingredients they use are fresh or have preservatives, msg etc.

Not much. When I dieted (by choice) I bought frozen veggies on sale 99¢ for 16oz bag. It would last me 4 meals. I know its not a long-term solution for everyone, yet for someone w/lots of allergies, I knew what was in the ingredients, it was healthy and most importantly I was still eating ... not completely starving myself thin. If you use coupons & buy everything on sale you can really save lots of money & still be prudent about what you're putting in your body. Good Luck.

Paying 2 bucks for a bag of mixed veggies shows poor planning. For 10 bucks at the Farmer's Market I can get: a head of cabbage [use for cole slaw, fried cabbage, and in soup or with boiled potato], a head of cauliflower, 3 pounds of carrot [5 pounds if bought judiciously], 3 pounds each of tomato and potato, broccoli, 4 apples, 4 pears, a pound of snow peas, and 3 eggplants. How many meals does that make? All fresh, no preservatives.
If not enough there are food banks run by USDA and churches for free. Variously you can get chicken, sausage, eggs, corned beef hash for protein depending on supply, canned/bottled pasta sauce for the free pasta, rice, canned legumes [kidney bean, black bean].
Then there are soup kitchens for free or $2 "suggested donation" meals which can include salad, Mexican or other ethnic fare. If you are not in a city then try growing your own.

um that's the lowest price the grocery store has- and it's for 12 ounces of veggies which is good for two meals. What country do you live in- the food pantry i went to never had fresh vegetables or meet- nothing that had to be refridgerated- only canned goods and most of them were past the expiration dates-

I'm in the good old USA. The meat is frozen and much else is canned [and, yes, some past expiration like the 3 pounds of frozen breakfast burrito mix of egg and steak they just gave me]. The 3 pound bag of onion is fresh and sometimes they give 5 pounds fresh potato, sometimes also fresh carrots. I know stores charge an arm and a leg which is why mostly all my fruit and veggies come from the open air market. I forgot to mention USDA also gives peanut butter, tuna, and loaves of bread all not needing refrigeration. Look into it and I hope they can assist you.

It sounds like you are talking about a week's menu...oatmeal or generic cerial for breakfast. Cook a chicken for the week and enhance it with whatever vegetables are cheap at the time..Ramin noodles, Mac and cheeze, and bananas at 52 cents per pound can round out the meal...water or Iced tea and a candy bar on Saturday makes a great week's menu....been there...done that.
