I once had someone make me a cheque book, each cheque was like an iou I could cash in at any time, it consisted of things like cooking a meal for me, giving me a massage etc, it was one of the best most thoughtful gifts I've ever been given.

Probably a great gift if they win something, either way they didn't want anything so they wont miss out I suppose.

A Visa or Mastercard gift carad. They're the most widely accepted giftcards and they will use them eventually for what they want or need.

Sometimes the best nothing gesture is telling them that you wanted to get them something but decided against it since they requested it. Then spending time with them, that may be what they want anyways.

People that say that don't really mean it- it sounds nice- but everyone wants something for their birthday.

Actually... It's my birthday today and I really don't want anything. I did not ask for anything and I do not want anything. However I will not decline a gift, I was always told that was rude and also disrespectful to the person who is giving the gift. I would be happy with a hug and some kind words or well wishing.
