What would you rather have, a dog or a cat? why?

I prefer to have a dog. I want a pet to be a companion not a guest in my house.

I think cats are fun to watch but I've never had a cat stick around long enough to really even feel close to it. Every damn cat I've ever adopted ends up taking off after a few weeks. Maybe the neighbors had better food, or something?

If you want to know who loves you more...your spouse/BF/GF....or your dog...then lock both in the trunk of your car for a couple of hours. When you return to let them out, find out which one is happy to see you and which one is not!

To answer your question, dogs are more loyal and unconditionally loving. Cats can love but it's more indifferently than a dog. They like you but they don't drool all over you and get all excited like a dog does.

However cats are far easier to care for...you can leave them with food for a week and they'll pace themselves. Most dogs will wolf it down in a day or two, like it's gonna disappear if they don't.

I prefer dogs better, due to their unwavering love and loyalty. There are certainly plenty of cats who also exhibit some of the same qualities...but the average cat does not, so I have to stick with dogs for now.

Both a great, but I'd choose a dog. They're a little friendlier and more in tune with their owner's emotions.

I like both, but I would prefer dogs because you can play with them more than cats. Usually cats will go where ever they want and do what ever they want, but some are like dogs. With dogs, you can walk them, pet them, play them, and tell them a command, and they do it. But if I couldn't have a dog, I would go with a cat.

A dog, preferably an English Mastiff, because, for lack of a better way to put it, they are really cool.

I like dogs, but I'm a cat person.

I like how cute they are, the different personalities they have, how they purr, the sounds of their meows, I love how they can curl up into a little ball, and how they make that little 'puuurrt' sound when you wake them up lol, I love how they knead on soft things, I love the little lapping sound they make when they drink, I love how they wiggle their butts before they pounce, I love I can carry them around like a baby, I love that mine would greet me when I got home and roll around on the ground...

GOD I miss having a cat!!!

Cats for me, but I do like dogs.

A cats gives affection because it feels like it. If they are mad at you they give you the cold shoulder. When my cats love on me I feel like its genuine.

When I had dogs it was like I was being worshiped, and they just look at you with awe. They were sweet dogs, and very loving but the affection didn't feel as genuine.

A Dog, I'm just not a cat person. I think I can do more fun things with a dog than with a cat. As they say, a dog is man's best friend.

Cat. Because I have both animals, already, and I prefer the species that doesn't need constant attention. They're kind of like stuffed animals that you feed.

I like both. I like cats because they are much much quieter. My dog is pretty quiet but when he gets it into his fool head to bark there is nothing you can do to shut him up. I'm working on bark training but it is taking forever lol! The only thing about cats is the shedding. My dog sheds but not near as much. I love all my animals unconditionally though :D My babies!

Cat.

For the same reasons that everyone who is a cat lover has already mentioned.

Depends on your needs and lifestyle. Cat's can take care of themselves better than dogs, but dogs are more loyal and can be more fun. Dogs are more work.

A cat! All the way! :-D

I do like dogs. But they require so much care and I have so little time for that. A dog is like a toddler and one must be ready to be a full-time mother with them. As a cat (even a kitten) is like an 30 year old roommate that doesn't pay rent! They just need you to feed them and clean the litter box. They handle the rest... throwing wild parties, smoking cigs, and drinking martinis. And they only want attention, when they feel like it! That's when they will have the attitude of, "Hey, you. Yes, you! Come over here and pet me for a while." =p

Dogs are always in the mode of, "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! Look at me!!! Play with me!!!" 24-7. XD

I have a dog, like dogs better. Cats can be pretty vindictive I've learned, unless the cat I had was a freak or something...

My dog starts about 1:00 pm to sit at the front window, waiting for me to come home from work (my son told me). He ADORES me, he sleeps right next to me, all cuddled up, I don't even want to think about the time he might not be here anymore..

My suggestion, for those recently widowed - get a nice dog, it will change your life.
