In my religion there are two kinds of sins: venial and mortal sin.
Venial sin is and can be forgiven by asking God directly and praying the act of contrition without going to confession.
Mortal sin is a grievous sin against God which can only be forgiven by confessing to a priest.
However, one commits a sin if they really have a full knowledge in doing what is wrong instead of avoiding it.

Having knowledge what is a sin is and deliberately sinning against God.
When we pray and ask for God to provide us a way out from sinning, our Creator provides a means by his spirit (force) so we do not sin.
But when we have knowledge of whats wrong and we do it anyways, that is what Jesus called sinning "against the holy spirit.
Mark 3:28-29 "Truly I say to YOU that all things will be forgiven the sons of men, no matter what sins and blasphemies they blasphemously commit. However, whoever blasphemes against the holy spirit has no forgiveness forever, but is guilty of everlasting sin.”...it's an unforgivable sin

Sin was the name of the Babylonian Moon God for whom Mt. Sinai was named. For thousands of years Babylonian Priests joined to Mt. Sinai on the Full Moon to receive the divine word of Sin. When Jews turned to Monotheism they fought hard to eradicate the old religion. The brother of Moses, for example, was a Priest of Sin. Eventually the name of Sin became synonymous with refusing to be owned and controlled by Priests of the new monotheism. The "worst sin" is to follow the old religion and worship the Moon God, Sin.

Listening to nickelback. And being a US congressman. Both at the same time would surely deserve the ninth layer of hell.

Lust.
It is a perversion and muddying of the purity of Love. It has also become commonly accepted and even replaces Love in modern society..which I find supremely repulsive.
