Whats it like to have a proffessional to talk to about mental health?

What type of therapist did you see and how did it help you?
Did you discover things you did'nt know?
Did you change at all? did you go back to your old ways?

After several tries, I found a therapist that matched my needs. A good therapist allows you the space for you to find answers. I had a few earth shattering revelations but for the most part I became aware. Aware of self. Aware that change is possible. Aware that I control my life.
I changed. The experience gave me solutions and a greater sense of self. I think of therapy as the greatest gift you can give yourself. It has been the only thing I've ever done (up until then) solely myself.
I backslide occasionaly but I now have tools to get past my past and move forward. Everyday I remind myself to be grateful for what is, just as it is.

i dont believe they are beneficial at all.
they just keep telling you, you have problems, so you keep going back,$$$$$.
they can do more damage than good sometimes.
nobody knows us better than ourselves.

A proffesional can not solve your problems but they can help direct your thoughts to give you more insight and understanding of yourself. Sometimes you may have to shop around for a proffesional that suits your personality and that you can relax and be open with as each have different approaches. It does benefit talking to people in general though but no one is a fix for your problems. You have to take responsability for your own mental health and personal growth and development

I think its pretty cool. You can tell them anything and not worry who else they are going to tell.

I've been to many.
I don't like them.
They just gave me pills.
I'm not going back.

I find it actually more helpful and self-revealing to talk to a religious leader. Even if you're not religious.

I've been to a few but have never really had the money to go regularly. I didn't find them helpfull. Usually they just chit chatted. I've found my husban has been a lot more insightfull and has made me aware of a lot more things about myself then they ever did.
