This guy fished for flat fish lying on the sea bed lightly covered with sand. In freezing temperatures he would swim out just below the surface with a snorkel, spear, and a bag over his shoulder to put his catch.

Once I entered the Hobby building at oour county fair & there was a collection section whereupon I saw a collection of cat whiskers. I've always wondered if the cats appreciated this.

I know a person who writes down UFO sightings throughout history and compares them. I also know someone who collects the little gum spit things. I wish I could describe it better. They were used to put gum in at the dinner table. She also collects finger puppets.

Creating life by galvanising human body parts in a dark laboratory in the freezing planes of Switzerland, proceeding then to allow the resulting monster to escape your sights and punish you by murdering those you love. Finally you run out your life by chasing him down, attempting to kill him and end the nightmare, thus completing your hobby and your life.

Water tower sitting during thunder storms gets my vote. Who can doubt the sincerety of it, or the lunacy. Both?

Piero Manzoni is an Italian artist who produced some 90 tin cans of his own feces, all valued at roughly their own weight in gold. Some people collect them as a hobby.

Catching a hungry scorpion and feeding the scorpion a cricket, it is really cool to watch nature unfold, one can only imagine the outcome.

Some really cool hobbies I know of are:

Melbourne Shuffle - a rave dance that's great fun to learn and perform, especially if you like electronic music

Tricking - gymnastics kind of performing using flips and kicks, looks really cool in my opinion

Animation - go download adobe flash, and start making whatever you want come to life

My friend collects / buys old dentures and works them into her art. They end up looking awesome, but add a little creepy vibe when she tells you that those are some ladies teeth, haha.
