Whats the deal with holy water? can just anyone pray over it or does it have to be done a certain way?

i know its just tap water thats been prayed over or blessed or whatever but can the average joe do it in his kitchen or does it have to be a special person with a special ceremony?

Holy water is a Roman Catholic term for water that has been blessed (which can be as simple as a priest making the outward sign of the cross over however much water you are blessing). Anyone who enters the church can dip their hand in the holy water and then make the sign of the cross to yourself with the dipped hand. Many churches, including the one I occasionally attend, have taken the holy water out of the fountains you dip into, though, these days. Can you guess why? If you said, "Fear of spreading swine flu," you'd be right. And by the way, even tho you can dip into the holy water, if you are not a Roman Catholic you are forbidden from taking communion in a Catholic church.

Yea, I went to a church and examined the holy water myself. I can assure you, there are no holes in it at all.

Only Jesus can bless the water through those who have been baptized with water AND the Holy Spirit. Others have their own beliefs and views of course, but that is mine.

In this day an age I make my own holy water. No one knows what it is in the water at church where hundreds of people have dipped their unwashed dirty fingers.
I believe in the concept.
I just think it doesn´t have to be germy.

Water is only symbolic; the cleansing of the heart with the divine teachings is the essence.
