Whats the difference between associates & bachelors degrees?

is one like a prerequisite to the other or are they completely different things? i have no clue & im trying to research my options for online schooling (b/c im having a baby & it would be easier to do it online than having to find a babysitter & a ride b/c i have no car) & scholarships/grants & im so lost... any helpful comments will be GREATLY appreciated:)

I would really stay away from on line degrees. They command such little respect in the job market. You do not need an AA to get a BA. There is a thing called general ed. you have to satisfy. If you go to a 2 year college and satisfy the gen ed. then transfer to a 4 year you will get an AA automatically. Before you give any money to an online college make sure they have the proper affiliation. On the West Coast it's called WASC western association of schools and colleges. There is an east coast version, but I don' know what it is. Reputation is everything, if you have to go on line pick a school that also has classroom education your degree would have more credibility that way.

An Associates Degree is a two-year degree, where you take only a few general studies classes and core classes in your specialty. It's designed to get you functional in an entry-level type position, or they're great for more technical jobs where hands-on skills are more important than "book" knowledge. You can get an Associate's first, and finish later with a Bachelor's.

A Bachelor's is a four-year degree. You take more general studes classes and more classes in your area of study. You'll hit more topics and go more in-depth. Depending on what you want to do, a Bachelor's is probably the minimal requirement.

Congrats and good luck!

They rank like this from highest to lowest:

PHD
Masters
Bachelor's
Associate's

Jules pretty much has the difference pegged. It really depends on what you want to do. I can tell you what to expect if you message me with that info. It isn't hard. You may be confused now, but believe me, it is pretty simple.

An associate degree is an academic degree awarded by community colleges, junior colleges, four-year universities, business colleges and some bachelor's degree-granting colleges/universities upon completion of a course of study usually lasting two years.

A bachelor's degree is usually an undergraduate academic degree awarded for a course or major that generally lasts for four years, but can range from two to six years depending on the region of the world. It may also be the name of a postgraduate degree, such as a Bachelor of Civil Law, the Bachelor of Music, or the Bachelor of Philosophy.

What's been said above describes the differences. One thing that you can get at a 2 year college in a certificate, which isn't a degree but certifies your proficiency in a certain area. This can qualify you for a specific type of job. For example, in my state, you complete 3 course and are certified as a Nurse's Aid. You can be certified as a Secretary by completing specific courses. Some of these certificates are required for those jobs and some aren't. What you want to do will affect your choice of your first degree or certificate.
