The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time is to make better use of daylight. We change our clocks during the summer months to move an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. This year Daylight savings time ends November 6th, do you think we will gain back that hour of sleep we lost in the spring? Lol, probably not!
Something about farmers.
actually in the end you are gaining an hour of sunlight in your day usually when people are coming home from work. it doesnt really affect the morning except you do gain an hour more of sleep and an hour more of daylight. It really does help people out for the most part maybe not you but some people.
I was always told it was so farmers could have more daylight hours.
Daylight cannot be saved
However, Wikipedia fails to mention that DST is strongly supported by the Dept of Commerce and the Dept of Energy. DST creates higher early evening sales numbers at retailers and lower early evening electricity usage among residences.
In the UK, we turn our clocks back at the week end. Trouble is, we have 7 months of summer and only 5 of winter. In fact winter time GMT, is the proper time.
It's a comply conspiracy thing :O look out.. they took off the minute hand:O
I thought it worked in the opposite way to what you describe: I mean that as the duration of daytime increases with the approach of summer and, subsequent to the summer solstice, continues to exceed nighttime until the autumn equinox, clocks are set one hour in advance of standard daylight time so as to maximize the possible productive use of daylight hours at both ends of the work day.
