What's your argument against mixed race marriage?

There was a recent question like that: 'If I don't agree with mixed race marriage, am I a racist? ' ( something like that).

Well, maybe I'm old fashioned but, to me, saying that people from different races should not get married ( because the race would remain 'pure') is plain old racism in crystal form.

While most replied with a resounding 'YES', some replied with no, and some even said they do not agree with mixed race unions either. My questions are mostly for those who replied 'No' :

Well, I'm curious, how do you manage to defend a stand on segregating people socially with 'matching races' marriage - and still think you are not using race doctrine ( racism ) to defend your argument?

Also, for those who replied with 'No'.... If segregated marriage is not racist, well, what is racist to you exactly?

By the way, racism according to our sacred dictionary:

Racism = 'a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others."

Being Bi-Racial, always hearing someone saying they don't agree with mixed marriages has always been a slap in my face. My mother and my father loved each other, despite their differing skin tones. Ad they love me and my sister like no one else can. to say you wouldn't agree with mixed relations is like saying people like me is an abomination. Ad to that i say "Go f*** yourself with a cannon. I hope you get r**** twice!!!" And I will not take that back for the world.

There is no argument. Racism is ridiculous and so are people who are "against mixed race marriage"..

Well, I hate to put it this way, but when my momma croaks I wanna meet up with a Mexican!! I won't do it right now because my mom would have a thousand cows and I would be the cause of her demise...So I'm waiting...She always tells me the older generation believes that God made everyone seperate for a reason, and that the tower of babel was where God separeated everyone and gave them a different language...But here the arguement is, still, that God created all of us..To me, it doesn't make any sense, but to the older generation, it makes perfect sense...I just don't get it. I would love to learn how other people live.

Ha ! very good ! I have been a mixed race for many years. My mother in law is very damaged by the mixture in her family from waaaay back. She holds great disgust at the white slave owners who turned her blood relations around. She went through hell because the mothers side didn't want her cause she was DARKER than her siblings. This is a loaded question with no good answer.

Racism is a purely human construct, and it is pathetic. Any race can mix with any other race and not only reproduce, but reproduce viable offspring. If there was a particular race which couldn't produce viable offspring with another race, then there would finally be an argument against interracial marriage. Since that is not the case, racism is pointless.

I shouldn't say pointless, though, because racism does serve a purpose. It highlights those particularly dim-witted people among us.

First the term race has been misused for a very long time. It was an anthropological term to describe physical traits aquired over millenia from living in certain environments around the globe. Not to denote superiority.

But... with little exception there is no pure race left. (a few isolated and indeginous tribes are the exceptions, and those are scattered across the globe and are quickly assimilating to the outside world.)

So mixed marriages, or bi-racial marriages are again misnomers.
They only point out what whuttup said... the particularly uneducated among us. (poor breeding stock as well)

My main argument that "it may be unwise" is based upon the practicalities of coming up against the differing expectations of differing CULTURES, and not specifically genetic differences as such. Differences of culture may result in trouble between the two partners because these differences of expectation were not fully enough explored before they "tied the knot". For instance, it may be traditional that in the husband's culture, women are subservient and have little to say in social situations, whereas the woman may be desireous of taking an active part - or something like that - and have not found out before they got married just how deeply the husband really resented that, due to his upbringing.

Of course, these objections won't apply if both different race partners were brought up and acclimated to the same society, as they will both have the same "rules" of behaviour.
And having said all this, if there is genuinely the close and true love relationship between them, then they would be able to work such differences out amicably, anyway.

But human relationships in general are rather tricky, and have many surprises and traps for the unwary - problems which can only be overcome if both partners are willing to truly support and consider the other, through thick and thin. Its wise intending partners indeed, who explore all the expectations of the partnership with full honesty and openness beforehand...

There is the other matter of "how will the children of such a marriage be viewed by others, and will they be at a disadvantage"? We all know how cruel children can be to each other in such matters; and again it depends largely on the opinions of their elders in that society. But like it or not, bias against skin colour exists in the work-place as well, and could be a source of heartbreak. These are all things that need to be weighed up. Maybe these children would want to take upon themselves to be a living example of non-bias; or perhaps they wouldn't...

I replied NO. My first wife was of a different race than I - I have step children who are black, children who are Asian and one child who is white. I abhor racism, but I equally abhor someone who would put a label on a person for their thoughts. Whatever I think or however I think is NOT a crime. If I take action on those thoughts - if I deny a person his/her rights because of their race, that is racism. Far too many politically correct people would deny a person such as the one who siad he disagreed with mixed race marriages THEIR rights. When my daighter started college she listened to her liberal professors too much. We had an argument one night about the KKK. She said they ought to be banned and it ought to be a crime to belong to their organization. She finally came around to my way of thinking. No matter who you are or what you think, you still have the same rights as the rest of us.
I do a lot of writing for newspapers - mostly letters to the editor. I have been branded as a racist because I wrote in about the percentage of young black me who commit crimes in my state. In my letter I stated that there was definately something wrong that needed to be fixed. I got lots of hate mail telling me I was a bigot and would go to hell - one death threat. All this because I stated the truth about something that concerned me. Thoughts is NOT a crime - when it becomes a crime in this country I will move.

Well, I'm not sure that mixing the Human Race and the Zargonne race is a good idea... the weird acids in their secretions mix with our saliva and cause small thermo-nuclear explosions... so it is really hard to have much fun... but other than that they are fairly nice.

to LevinKitty:
Just because something isn't a crime or it isn't hurting someone doesn't mean that it isn't racism. Of corse people can think what ever they want to, but if they are thinking racist thoughts, then they are racist. And just because you are a racist doesn't mean that you no longer have rights. (Since you obviously American) America is a beautiful place because you can be a racist, or what ever other kind of ******* you decide to be and still have your rights. No one is trying to take away the rights of someone opposed to inter-racial marriage. I never heard of such a case where someone was forced to marry someone of a different race. As far as the KKK goes, sure these people should be allowed to be in the group if they want. But that doesn't mean that they aren't racist. If you join the KKK and never force your opinion on anyone else or hurt anyone, but you do think the way that the KKK does, then you are a racist. Thank you.

I firmly believe in the spirit of what Levin is saying.

The difference being that his example of black youth committing crime in his state is a verifiable fact. Applying the racism tag to disclosed information of that sort is reason for revolution IMHO. Censoring information this way has happened in the name of political correctness. I believe that is the point he is making.

Obviously, this does not apply to the intermixing of marriages. I don't see how anyone could have a leg to stand on in any rational attempt to condemn these marriages.

Argument?? I'd hardly think that anyone in todays society could stand and say that are 100% any "race or nationality" anymore. If so they are so few that THEY are a minority! I am totally supportive of being proud of your heritage and celebrating it. But my personal opinion is Love should not be given restrictions. Celebrate your diversity and teach your children to be proud of their history, what ever it may be! There is room for eveyone on this big ole planet! As long as we continue to teach our children about our ancestors and give them a sense of pride and not shame in their heritage, we never have to fear our heritage being lost!

I dont have an argument against mixed race marriage. Race shouldnt be the reason people fall in and out of love.
I have a message , though, for those against mixed race marriage : Open your hearts and minds and learn to live and let live.
