Wow, what whiners. Yes, corporations which pay the highest taxes in the the world actually get to spend money to battle things that they think might be bad for them just like the Sierra Club, Move-on.org and the unions. BFD.

If you believe in the founding fathers cry of "there should be no taxation without representation, they should also get to vote, but I haven't seen any of them at the polls yet.

Too many people tend to think of corporations as evil old rich guys but guess what - if you have a 401K, pension, or other retirement, you too are a big corporate meanie. Because guess where all that money gets invested. (Including union pension money.) That's right - in corporations! Chances are you own oil company stock and big pharma stock and maybe even stock in Goldman.

I'm sorry...I guess I should've been more clear that I was talking about the US where some of the largest corporations actually have a negative tax rate (i.e. the tax payers are paying them), not wherever the highest corporate taxes in the world are.

ChakatBlackstar - The United States does officially this week have the highest corporate taxes in the world. I know that's not what they report on DailyKoz, but it is reported in the financial pages. Yes, there are corporations that through combinations of write off, corporate tax breaks, subsidies, etc. do manage not to pay taxes, but I'd suggest you look before you leap on badmouthing all of that. Tax breaks for employee retraining, hiring the handicapped, replacing equipment that is not as efficient as it should be for the environment, moving to equipment that takes advantage of new fuel sources, etc. are all things that make a big part of those tax breaks, as do the most basic ones like being able to write down losses from discontinued businesses and bad debt. (And lord knows that in this economy there's been a lot of that.) The rhetoric gets a little thick on this issue and someone needs to remind people that most tax breaks are for things the government wants corporations to do and that corporations have absolutely zero legal obligation to do.

Because those with the majority of monetary funds can "fund" others into becoming the majority and/or making sure their votes count a little bit more than the rest of us.
