I get that from both sides. I'm a libertarian with plenty of issues with both major parties. I've actually been called am Obama supporter and a Bush supporter within the span of about 10 minutes before. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who only see two sides and don't realize there are more angles.

Because people love to make assumptions. It's so much easier than actually thinking.

I can't improve on imabear, I would just add that people tend to polarize. I didn't mean to make a bear joke.

Insecurities. They hate Obama sooo much that any negative said about someone that is opposed to him amounts to an attack on the person they support. Their insecurities come from the fact that they themselves hate Obama so much that they can't see that their guy/person is a lunatic.
