I don't need people to care in order to live MY life... now THAT would b pointless

Absolutely. Every person needs at least one person to love and care about them; otherwise, if you have no one, I can attest it makes life pointless and not worth inhabitating.

Not true : every mentally healthy person knows that happiness, contentment and reason emanates from within. Of course that makes playing thw victim pretty hard when one isn't satisfied with their existence

It is certainly the first step in that direction. But if you care, if YOU care when no one else does for someone, just one person. You keep yourself from sliding down that slippery slope. :D
