When temptation becomes too much for you to stand, what do you do? Give in or continue to attempt to resist?

It seems like I am fighting a war inside me. I wake up in the middle of the night, out of breath, because the desire to give in to my temptations is so great. How do I continue to fight, or should I just give in? (temptation is sexual in nature)

When temptation becomes too much for you to stand, or withstand, you give in, by definition.

"I can resist anything but temptation." Oscar Wilde.

"Attempting to resist" temptation is playing a sado-masochistic game with yourself. If you want to defeat it, avoid it, leave. Why torture yourself?

Depends what is at risk if you do give in to temptation. Are you in a relationship? Does the temptation involve someone else?If you do give in, how will you feel after, once it's done,it's done!Be sure.

It depends on the nature of the temptation. Are you craving a midnight snack?

How will it affect your life if you give in? Will it hurt you? Will it hurt others? Will it fulfill some dark and haunting need?

single...give in and enjoy the moment as long as it keeps you happy and healthy. Taken...Avoid the tempter like the plaigue unless you are about to trade in for a "better model" which i couldn't even fathom wanting. My love is "the one" even if he doesn't realize it yet. :-)

technically if it becomes too much for you to stand you will give in by definition. Sorry, I can be such a nerd at times.

I'm not known for my world class willpower but there are lines I wouldn't cross. It is always good to remember that world does not revolve around you, it depends on what kind of hurt giving in would cause.

Look at all angles....If it is something that you will not regret...then by all means ...give in...provided that no one will be hurt...I guess it depends on the situation...not knowing all the details it is hard to say.....but I try to resist temptation if I feel that I will regret it later...regret is a hard thing to deal with! Ya can't take it back once it's done!

This answer SOOOO depends on what the temptation is. However, obviously you are struggling with a temptation to do something that you feel you shouldn't (hence the resisting part). If you give in, you'll probably feel bad about it afterward. I would say, you need to talk about it to someone. Alot of the times we build things up in our heads to the point of bursting, if you talk about it with someone, it can lose alot of its power. But always remember...if you do it, you can't take it back...you might feel worse than you do now.

Knowing what you've told me I would say give in to temptation. I did. I wouldn't suggest it for everyone but if it's going to bring you some happiness and you won't beat yourself up over guilt and regret then go for it. Maybe if you you will take the final step you need to take.

It clearly states in the Bible that God will not give us more than we can bare. So I would resist. Look how Job resisted to urge to curse God.

I just give in.........if it's something that won't be fatal. The way the question is posed, that's what you do when "temptation becomes too much for you to stand" what else can you do - go crazy - end up taking drugs or drinking because you're weak against temptation. I try NOT to give in, but after it's all done and over with - I'm only human and sometimes, you just have to give in, but still I would take precautions - I would give in to the temptation but within reason e.g. use a condom if you don't know the guy real well and you just can't take it anymore.

Nice one EILagarto;) I like how you think.

But back to the question: Go for it!

Also, can you bible bashers leave it alone for a while. How about you start to think like human beings, with your own minds. You are bascially quoting fairy tales to people, written by some average person a long time ago who was prob. trying to scare some poor sod in to compliance with his wishes. Honestly!
