When you were 17, did your mom say to you; "don't stop imagining. The day that you do is the day that you die."?

All I heard was, don't embarrass us, what will the neighbors think, why can't you be more like so and so, I'm tired of hearing about your problems, you'll never amount to anything, don't let me down, don't tell your father, don't tell about our family's secrets, sit up, don't you argue with me, blah blah blah. Don't think I ever received any words of encouragement, definitely never heard, "I know you can do it"! "Keep trying!" Just don't think my parents ever believed in me or the possibilities that could have been me. I told my own kids, though, reach for the stars, you can do it, if you can think it, it's impossible, don't give up.

My Mom never said that to me, but it puts me in the mind of that line by Shannon Hoon "... when you stop dreamin' it's time to die!"
