Resolved Question

When your supervisor is wrong do you tell him/her that they are wrong?

I do. Every damn time they shed off responsibility and make a bad decision call, i tell them what they did wrong and why they got the outcome they got. Im a skip tracer and my supervisor has never worked in that field prior to working in it now. So when he tries to say the workers are at fault, i advise him to organize the dept. Get mad if you want, but don't call me on my days off to fix a situation that shouldve been fixed before i came to work.--------------------- WELL, I TELL THEM CAUSE WHEN THE SHYT STARTS HITTING THE FAN, I DON'T WANT TO BE INVOLVED WITH THE EFFECTS - AND I PUT IT IN WRITING...

I think you are totally correct in doing so. It's not your job to just follow instructions in error. At the end of the day, you must do the job to the best of your ability within the terms you are contracted to cover.

Take my word for it - it doesn't get better... for some reason these incompetent supervisors rarely ever step up to the plate and educate themselves. They seem to find one or two people to pawn everything off on - then they take all the credit ... but not usually the blame.

If I had it to do over again ... I'd probably switch jobs!

Good luck. You ARE doing the right thing by telling them when they screw up, though.

Ever heard the phrase "between a rock and a hard spot" ? That's where you are, my friend.

I do, but that's because I'm considered an expert in my field, and subsequently have more practical experience, and tools at my disposal. Still, I try to do it with some discression. Even if they're obviously wrong, it's never a good career move to humiliate or demean a supervisor.

Yes i do and always have , and yes i have had many arguments . but just because they are the supervisor means nothing as they make mistakes to.
And usually the person knows their own job better than a supervisor ,and as a supervisor is only there to organise the work they don`t know the best way to do it.
But i once tried to tell as upervisor that what he wanted to do was wrong, he didn`t listen and when it went wrong i had great pleasure in telling him " i tried to warn you" And he ended up sacked because of it.
But if you know you right say so and stand up for your rights
