People are empty husks that can never be filled. We feel that abyss from the minute we leave the womb. We spend our lives in a frantic search for something, anything out there to make us feel whole again. Religion, relationships, sports, careers, sex, food, drugs, violence: we spend our short lives, both waking and dreaming (for what are dreams and other flights of fantasy other than the attempt to consume something outside of reality) in a steady feeding frenzy. Forever searching for something out there, something distant. Whether it lies ahead or behind it is never close, never here. We covet all that is external because we have lost our connection with the internal. We care more for others opinions of us than we do our own opinions of the facade in the looking glass. How can one be honest with anyone, love anyone or have unity with another when we can't tell ourselves the truth, love ourselves or have a strong connection to who we truly are? Unity has been consumed be dogmatic fences and reinforced with the restrictions of anothers opinion. Always something out there. You ask where it was lost and I repeat, who is to say it was ever here?
