Its essentially an edited version of a lot of scrolls. But heavily edited. There were well over 20 gospels available. But only 4 got in. Then the whole thing has been revised and "translated" so that the meaning would be better seen on the light of the times. After 2 millenia, you wouldn't recognise the original from the current version.

If you look at the authors of some of the books in the Bible you will notice that some of them do not have authors, and are not certain who wrote that particular book If you study your history of the Bible you will notice that different chapters were left out by Constantine who selected what books he wanted to put in the Bible. Leave the question how many books are missing from the Bible.

It's great to hear a variety of answers from ppl who are loyal to their religions & are smart.....I was worried I was going to read answers from certain reborns who have a book they put together when they cherry picked the bible then started their cult and get together in a rented place in a ***** mall and listen to an uneducated man who has read that book 5 times and calls himself a preacher stand there brainwashing the weak drug addicts & homeless ppl they prey upon and try telling them the world is only 4000 yrs old. The Bible or books some think are bibles can be dangerous when the person preaching it is misinterpreting it creating radicals & extremists

The Bible as we have it today is a collection of books. The first written part...the first five books of the Bible were believed to have been written by Moses from the oral traditions and then the travels through the desert. The rest is divided into sections...for history, laws, prohecy, 'poetry'...etc. For the most part it was written by the early jewish people. The second part. The new Testament was for the most part written several decades after Jesus lived. The earliest being the book of Mark...which was altered a few times, in around 96 ad. (CE). However the writers were jews, gentiles of various countries and cultures..including Roman, greek, egyptian) There were many many books. The early priests that traveled from place to place would have carried with them different scrolls and 'books', tablets (most likely of wax) each relating to the teacher they had had before, whether they were Paulist, or followers of Peter, or one of the other disciples..(.or later teachers). By the time of the Byzantine Empire the Emperor of Byzantinum things were fractured in the early church. He commisioned the Council of Nicea to make canon, the new testament. They waded through the books they had...choosing the most prevailent, and also the most in keeping with their prevailing thoughts. They chose leters, gospels, 'acts', and the every popular apocolyptic book. They chose from several. Many that were not included in canon are still around...they were kept for many years in the vatican library. Others were used in Ethiopia as well as the Coptic church. <br />
During the thousand or so years since different translations have been put forth. Some have fallen by the side as the 'modern' language fell out of favor. Others are still used.

MarcusGP is exactly right. there were books written by prophets that were left out by Constantine during the Council of Nicea, if they didn't meet the beliefs of the Catholic church. among the books thrown out included the diety being 3 SEPARATE beings. this belief is still held by some religions (mine included). the bible is only true if it was complete and translated correctly.

The Holy Bible came from the Spirit of God that directed His chosen men through history to be the writers. Because Moses was moved by God's Spirit to write the first five books of the Bible and Israel were God's chosen people, it was them who had the first written words of God. And because only God is truth, you can expect nothing but confusion when you ask man a question about God because this whole world has been deceived [Revelation 12:9] by the god of this world who is Satan that is the director of all the worldwide religions of man from inside the buildings of man falsely called churches including false Christianity with the Catholic religion being the king spider wed that has caught a piece of every religion that has produced one major mess of confusion worldwide---and God is not the author of confusion as written in 1 Corinthians 14:33---but all that man is---is confusion. Jeremiah 3:25
