'Touch Wood' by Duncan Hamilton, a brilliant British racing driver in the 50's. Loaned to me by my Science Teacher, Mrs. Bowring. Gave me a lasting love of British cars, particularly Jaguars and Aston Martins, and led to me managing Australia's largest Roll-Royce workshop for some years.
Sounds a little selfish I know, but left me with the message that 'good taste is it's own reward'.

By the way, 'The Power Of One' and 'Watership Down' get a look-in as well.

It's worth it. Can't believe I didn't put in 'Dr. Suess's Sleep Book'! I still read it to girlfriends!

Old man and the sea, by Hemingway. It's basically one big metaphor about never quiting.

You're welcome. I didn't get it in HS, but it makes so much sense after all those years.

How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World by Harry Browne. You can still find it in used bookstores and online. Worth whatever you have to pay.

Oh, and also "The Art of Racing in the Rain" (Garth Stein) and "Pope Joan" (Donna Woolfolk Cross). Which genres do you prefer? I'll post more as I think of them.

That's a hard one to answer, because there are so many (which is why my library is overflowing). But if I had to take only one author with me as i was stranded on a desert Island, It would be the Seth Material - all volumes included.
