It doesn't sit right (in my thoughts) how you use the word 'Commercial profit'. I can't think of a Church that promotes itself as a commercial enterprise. The only way to contort the religious establishments into commercialism is that of TV Evangelism; there is big money within that field. But I don't see the same commercial plan (generally speaking) in the every-day established Church.<br />

If commercialism and the Church were to be entertained as a commercial venture, then it doesn't need 'Invention. All it needs to do is to persuade the congregation into parting with money, and (given that scenario) that could only be done by using God *and* the devil, because the Church preaches every week of the good and bad parts of the Christian life. In which case (in the scenario you suggest) then it wouldn't be too unlike cowboys and injuns; there has to be a bad guy and a good guy to rile people up enough to get the message across in order to commercialise and generate income.<br />

god and the devil are not religions in and of themselves. There are plenty of religions or ministries started to make money...they often end up in the courts with their leadership facing jail time. but many get away with it too.
