most private Universities give a better education (though not all, by any means-- there are excelent state schools and atrocious private ones!)

Most state schools give you more for your money.

You need to wiegh a lot of factors-- what the specific schools are good at, and how those strengths match your interests; what debt level you will graduate with -- are two important ones.

But at the end of the day, my favorite high school instructor gave m a piece of advice 45 years ago that I've never forgotten: "Any school is what you make it. If you're motivated, you can get a first rate education at a 2nd rate school; if you're not, you could go to the best schools available and walk out with a 3rd-rate education."

I attended a state university and it was fine. If I'd gone to a private uni I would probably still be in debt at age 36. No thanks.

State universities hands down. Private universities in places like the US have been proven to be a complete disaster and robbing students blind.

I went to a small private college. I'd chose more on the size of the enrollment, average class size, and reputation than on state or private. Though I guess state schools might have cost advantages if you live within the state.

Both are alright. I tend to lean more towards private though.
