Which rock opera do you think is the best?

There are a few bands, some widely known, some with cult followings, which have ventured forth and spent an entire album (occasionally more) telling a story. A story about a hero... A story about love... Any kind of story.

Out of all those that exist, which is YOUR favourite? (And please don't answer "rock operas suck" or "I don't know any".)

Best answer is determined entirely by the votes of EPeeps.

Well I am 100% going with "Repo: The Genetic Opera"

It's not a band on an album, it's an actual rock opera/movie/stage play.

Tommy by The Who is easily the standard by which all others are based. The movie wasn't too good, but the Broadway show was pretty good.

I also vote for Repo, the Genetic Opera

C'mon, it was made by the guys who do the "Saw" series; it had a great narrator, and Paris Hilton gets some awesome scenes (some where you wish it was her in real life!); the show's made the record-books for most tracks in a musical, it's lyrical, and it's gory as hell (but only when it needs to be)...plus a lot of my more-nerd friends point out one of the main characters is that glasses-wearing guy from buffy, and his daughter is the chick from disney's spy kids.

Overall, a very enjoyable experience, so long as gore and hard cussing doesn't bother you!!

Forgotten almost before it was gone, the rock opera is a milieu that ranks up there with 8-track tapes - an awful idea made hideous in the implementation.

Joe's Garage by Frank Zappa.

Quadrophenia, Tommy, and JCS are all good to fall back on though.

That is a tough one. My first thought was Tommy by the who but then I read other responses and that reminded me of some other great ones!

How about Velvet Goldmine? It is not a band either but it is sort of based on the whole Iggy Pop/David Bowie glam rocke era and the music is pretty dang good.

OH!! Hedwig and the Angry Inch!!!! I am changing my vote!!! Definately - Hedwig and the Angry Inch!
