Last I checked, there's not a white man alive who has owned a slave, nor a black man who's been one. As a white person who has never owned a slave, and who wasn't alive during either the antebellum era or the Jim Crow era, I don't think I owe any black person anything.
yes, i think white people owe us money. they owe us money for every drop of african blood they spilled, so much that now my black brothers and sisters are unable to see the sacredness of their own bodies. they owe us for every black family that was forcibly torn apart, so many that the black family unit has almost become a myth. they owe for teaching their children that we are sub-human, so much so that, even in this day and age, i cannot walk through a mall without getting crazy stares from white children. they owe us for our languages, customs, and religions that were beaten from us. money is only the start. we demand reparations because it's the only way to get peoples' attention. it is not in the past, as some of you may think. and barack obama does not mean we live in a post racial society. there are white families that still live with the wealth they acquired with slavery, and we still live with the legacy of death, abuse, and separation.
YOU ARE AS IGNORANT AS THEY COME...GO BACK TO AFRICA WHERE YOUR DECENDANTS CAME FROM...IT WAS THE AFRICANS BLACKS THAT SOLD YOUR *** TO THE WHITE PEOPLE IN THE FIRST PLACE....GO BEG THEM FOR MONEY NOT WHITE PEOPLE....WHITES DON'T OWE BLACKS ****...
why the hell should white people pay money to dead slaves ? or decendants of dead slaves ? there decendants got everything there forefathers ever dreamed of. FREEDOM ! and the right to act as stupid and uneducated and lazy as the want. and the right to ask for there Obama money, witch is our money. so ?
u big nasty fat back greasy ***** u dnt have the right to talk about black people for all our pain u dammmmm right *********** like u deserve to give us everything we sufferd for...... an u talk about some one lazy u the one that got to hold that pork chop u call a stomach up u say that we want our obama money we sure do an u hate tht an theres nothing u can do from stoppin an getting whats ours in the first place u think i give a dam who money it is its still gone be mine once i out it in my pocket an a low life u will look so ******* stupid u beat our men lenched them an u rapped our women just to make yourself feel good an wen u had our babys u wanna not claim it an rape it too u sick son of a ***** but little do u no i never jude the white people in my family cause i love them an they love me we dont care wht color u r good made u an thats all u dam right my fathrs white an mamas black an i have the best of both worlds......NOW A DAYS BLACKS AN WHITES ARE GETTING TOGETHER AN HAVING MIXED CHILDREN AN ADOPTING CHILDREN OF DIFFERENT COLOR CAUSE THEY CARE AN DONT THINK OF U NO COLOR U WOULD KNOW THAT IF U WASNT AN *** HOLE..............
people need to realized that white people were not the only people to have slaves
Were slave owners ever compensated for the loss of their property?
Yes. Dig them up!
Many tend to forget that slavery was more an economic issue than anything and that it was mainly in the interest of maximizing profit and minimizing costs. Simply put, the cost of getting labor from a slave was at a minimum and the profit from that was almost 100%. THAT was at the heart of slavery and remains to be at the heart of slavery today (e.g. children forced into prostitution via human trafficking)! The idea of reparations is an illusory concept that masks, confirms, and possibly perpetuates the underlying yet primary motivation of slavery, which is getting the max profit from labor at an almost minimal cost!
Anyways, thanks for asking a question that only allows self-centered, egotistical, small-minded people to express their frustration with people of a different race.
Should the Irish be expectin a check from the Britts?
I am a slave to a married black couple .. so I feel like I am giving back to the black race.. I love being owned bye them and I will spend the rest of my life in slavery.. and love it..
No. I've never owned a slave, nor did any of the people in my family tree. I come from hard working, self-reliant stock. Why should I pay for something my family was never involved in ? On the other hand..anyone who thinks they can forcibly remove the money from my hands is more than welcome to try.
There is no white people who own slaves that happen many many years ago.
I encountered an amazingly knowledgeable black man while being yelled at by another black. This is what the man said:
No white man went into Africa and made anyone a slave.
Slaves were a function of war, where one tribe would be taking over another's territory. The loser was sold into slavery. For thousands of years, slaves were sold and transported over land. Unfortunately, too many escaped and returned.
To solve this problem, when the Europeans came and were going to put an ocean between the slave and returning, an improved solution to the slave returning arose.
Now some very interesting facts:
5 millions slaves go into the Amazon Basin, 90% die
5 million slaves go into the Caribbean Basin 90% die
300K to 500K slave go into North America and 90% survive (yes lots died on ships and numbers are historians best estimates)
The survival rate of a black slave in America was higher than a free man living in Africa. (I am not recommending they owe us for their better chances! LOL)
At some point in time everyone needs to grow up. At some point you have to get: OK your parents did THAT to you, but what are you going to do now
Yes, the white man as a collective concept did this to your race hundreds of years ago, you are responsible for your life NOW, so what are you going to do?
You can waste your time and energy and complain, but there are hundreds of thousands of black millionaires in the US. Many of them descended from slaves.
I come from the royal family of Scotland. We are the first political-religious refugees. That oil off the north shore, do they owe me?
seriously get over it.
Spending your time looking backwards and making that the MOST significant REASON why your life is the way it is, is in my not so humble opinion, a waste of time and energy.
Look forward and make a goal.
Koran: When you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there.
Wow! really? So the Germans owe the Jews too huh? Give me a break.
Those people are now dead, but unfortunately slavery isn't. There are still young girls in India lugging bricks and stones up mountains, there are still little children working in sweatshops, there are still young girls who are forced to be prostitutes, there is still forced labour in North Korean concentration camps, there is still illegal trafficking even in Europe, I could go on .........
As other people who answered noted, there are no people alive who owned slaves legally in America. However, I assume that this question is actually meant to touch upon the idea of reparations for slavery in America.
Personally, I think the idea does have some logic to it. White people in America earned a lot of money with the labor of African slaves. The African Americans born to these slaves suffered, and even after earning their freedom it led to a class of people in worse economic conditions than white people. The aftereffects of slavery and racism can still be seen in communities in America today. I don't think it's right to say that we should just pretend that the past is in the past and has nothing to do with the problems of today.
However, direct reparations from the descendants of slave owners to the descendants of slaves would be logistically impossible. Very few records exist to prove these connections. It would be hard to trace everyone's family tree. It would also be impossible and ethically disturbing to choose an amount of money worth a slave's labor in the past. No amount could possibly make everything all right.
In light of this situation, I think the best thing to be done in America is to remove the racial inequities as much as possible. Affirmative action may be a part of that, but at it's simplest level everything should be done to move the poor out of poverty, regardless of their race. Helping those with lower incomes will disproportionally affect African Americans in a positive way, and it will make America stronger. I think this is the least we should do to make up for past mistakes and make sure everyone has a chance at the American dream.
no slave owes another slave anything else but sympathy and respect
Everyone who owned one is dead now
That was those english cu*nts that started that one, they owe the world an apology
I heard an interesting discussion on the radio some time ago.... What if the U.S. government paid every black person in America $1,000,000. Tax free. Now, this wouldn't "make everything all better" and it wouldn't "un-do" what has been done. But maybe it would be a start and a step in the right direction. With a stroke of the pen the U.S. government could finally "address this issue."
