Selfishness is neutral. Neither good nor bad.

I would have to agree with you. Being concered with one's own interests does not mean that a person is good or bad..

I do...Satan the evil one was selfish when he wanted his own glory. He said to Eve, "You'll be just like God" making her think of self.

From a religious standpoint, you are probably correct. But what about from a moral standpoint? The concept of "selfishness" does not include a moral evaluation.

I see, but when you used the word "evil" to me it denotes spirituallity . let's see... without moral evaluation, who can really say because our idea of "selfishness" comes from what we "believe" selfishness to be. I think that the answer has to include the religious view.

'Evil' is a human construct, like 'good', 'bad','hot', 'cold'... none of which actually exists but in our mind! To answer your question, to the properly adjusted person evil yields good. To the maladjusted, good yields evil. You see, all the great boons and disadvantages are inside a persons heart, unseen by human eyes.

Not really! To be selfish cuts you off from others. So that isn't hurting anyone but that person because they only worry about themselves. Which isn't evil in it's self, it is just anti social.

well, that's not antisocial, but most people probably don't know the difference so I guess it's pointless to point it out.

Out of all of the negative characteristics, I think selfishness and greed are probably the closest to evil. Things like anger are usually caused by some type of pain. Being selfish is just when you want more for yourself regardless of how it hurts others.

The nicest people I know are selfish, they are only kind to a select few but they certainly aren't bad persons.

Caring for one's own interest without a concern for others. If someone wants to kill another person for their interest, how would you feel about that? Yes, selfishness is the cause of all that is wrong.

Selfishness is hurtful to others, therefore feels evil. If it feels evil, it is evil. Selfish persons will find themselves alone in the end.

What happened to 'there is no greater sacrifice than to give your life for your friends'?? Selfishness is the art of unleashing the ego with the pinnacle being pride. A person who has pride is blind!
