It was God's idea when he created man and woman. His idea came from his love. God also used marriage as a symbol of his love for us. That He is committed to us, He will love us in sickness and in health, til death. It is a promise he made to us. People got the idea of marriage because God put in their hearts that it was a righteous thing to do. So marriage was created just like God's covenant to his people.

God created an union between man and woman in order to procreate and respect each other but people created Marriage!!!!!!!! Not God!!!!!!!!! Why would a man or woman that have totally no respect for themselves or their union continue to be together and if a divorce its considered not only would the church be involved and condemned you but you must spent thousands of dollars on lawyers...am I right? I believe in an union of values: love, trust and respect......

Government created marriage to control society and to maintain order. It provides a framework for the raising of children and assigning responsibility for the duties that society demands of individuals. This has nothing to do with love or commitment or individual freedom of association. What God created are the feet we should use to run away from a bad marriage and to run to true love.

Government. Unless recognized by the government, no marriage is valid for tax breaks or inheritance or any of the other benefits that accrue to those who are married.
Some of these sexual predators who kidnap young girls and rape them over and over again, for months, or years, claim under their religion, they married the children they kidnapped. Like that monster who kidnapped Elizabeth Smart. That's a church-sanctioned wedding for you. You think anyone recognizes it?

The term marriage is Biblical. We cannot however be "married" without the civil ceremony in the eyes of the modern day legal system. Hence so much flap for gay "marriage" legality. The religious community is against it because of the terminology being used, amongst other things.....
