Football as it is now, was invented by the English, on the fields of Eton. But there is a much older version, where you could kick the ball through a hoop, or pick it up and throw it through a hoop. This game was invented and played by the Aztec Indians.As for the games name, I believe I am right in saying that the USA are the only country to call it "soccer" but I am open to correction.

Most countries call it football, we're pretty much the only country that calls it soccer.
