I don't hate it, in fact I consider it a little like bondage or S&M and actually get off on it ...

Our tech support was in India. Half of the time the language barrier would be such a pain in the butt i'd end up just calling one of my friends who is really into computers to get help.

Yep. The problem is that the vast majority of techies who work in 'support' are socially inept and ultimately don't like dealing with people. Funny isn't it?

Why should they help? If all problems were solved they would put themselves out of a job.

I hate it when I cannot understand what they are saying due to their extreme Indian accent. And they've actually only fixed my problems like twice out of ten times.

I had a couple friends who worked in customer retention at Adelphia. They had to give them new stress squeezer everything month because they so often popped.
My friend was on disability for a long time due to his mental illness, then finally was able to go back to work, but within a week he was asked to go back on disability after he told a customer to take his head out of *** and try the remote.

Who doesn't hate that. To be fair, it is *very* difficult to troubleshoot over the telephone.

I was pretty frustrated when the tech support guy I contacted to help me with a hardware problem was completely clueless about what it was. He kept telling me it was probably caused by overheating or the battery dying -- I'm not great with hardware, but I know enough about it to know that was NOT the cause of my laptop's problems. I tried to explain this, but he didn't seem to "accept" it.

Much later on, it finally died completely. According to my friend, the motherboard went kaput.

But I can kinda understand why he had trouble. My problem wasn't something I could "repeat at will," so it would've been difficult to diagnose even if he had it there. Computers are complicated things, even for us techies.
