Nice answers. But what if it's our fault that we don't have friends? What if we are the ones who alienate other people from ourselves?

My 21st bday is tomorrow and i have no ******* friends. When you think of "21st bday" u think of you and 5-6 other girls all getting $hit faced drunk in vegas or at a club somewhere,dancin off beat and having the time of your life.....taking a bunch of pictures to show off on fb, twitter, or instagrahm..and laughing your *** off with your friends the next day recalling all the funny **** yal did the night before (or the $hit u remember) while you all have hangovers....and that day will b remembered for the rest of your life......NOT ME!!! NON OF THAT $HIT IS GUNNA HAPPEN TO ME AND ITS ALL MY FAULT BECAUSE IM A ******* LONER AND DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS AND MAKE PEOPLE LIKE ME. My sister is the total opposite of me ... everyone loves her and she has like a million friends and she is 2 yrs younger than me...aint that a *****....im even socially awkward with my cousins, they all are my age and they love hanging out with my 18 year old sister???????? WTF, I just dont get it. I said all that to say I know how u feel. Srry for the rant. FML for real

Well, I'm 23 and while I have friends, I know my real-life friends tend to use me. They wouldn't care if I was in trouble or having a hard time and I know it from repeated experience.

Perhaps its my "fault" somehow but then I'm gradually realising that if I'm happy with myself, I don't need friends who use me, or put me down, or who are fair-weather.

Normal is a term open to much abuse. I would say everyone is unique in who they keep around themselves and in how they relate to others, and this very much depends on your personality, where you live, and how determined you are. They say that a friend in need is a friend indeed, so if someone appreciates you for who you are you will have a real friend. If you don't have any friends now, don't be eager to change that... time, place and circumstances will reveal friends, and you would even be surprised who you will meet here on EP!
