Me! The reason? Adrenaline! I started out working on an ambulance and went to Paramedic school. Then, while I was doing clinicals for Paramedic, I had to trail a Respiratory Therapist for 16 hours. I thought "Holy crap! I like this! A nice controlled environment, ambulatory throughout the hospital, a variety of patients, and drama, all rolled into one so I finished the Paramedic Program and went to school for RT. Here, I've been for going on 23 years. It's a mostly rewarding career, I get to work in CCU with critical patients, the ER with acute patients, the NICU with neonates, the medical floor with sick patients. I don't like the surgical floor but it pays real well and I love my co-workers, to include the nurses and the ER docs. I think I made a good choice. I'd just like a little change. I'm working on some research for a physician to start a Respiratory Rehab program in his office. That would slow me down a little bit and I could still work in the hospital a day or two a month to maintain my professional skills and work with my friends! I do enjoy helping people.

I decided to become a CNA after 12 years as a medical biller. I've been working in a nursing home since Jan and love it. My heart goes out to all the sick, lonely, unwanted, unloved or forgotten about people. Not that it takes my attention away from the patients who have family members that visit. People will say to me how could you give up your own office and hours and weekends to do such a job as a CNA. I can't help to feel saddened and can only reply wouldn't you want someone to care for you unconditionally.

Right now I'm in school for pre-nursing. My plan is to become a nurse practitioner and specialize in Neonatal/OBGYN. I've been wanting to work in some facet of healthcare since I was 14 years old. I love the pace and the mental stimulation that goes with it. The love of helping and loving other is a given for me. :)

I am there to provide comfort and help during some of the worst moments in people's lives. I am a lifeline for some and a friend to others. I am capable of so much more outside of that ambulance, but that is where I belong. That is where people need me to be, so that is where I stay.
